Aakanksha Awasthi — dramatic studio portrait, the many faces journal cover Roles
Editorial Feature • October 2026 • 6 min read

Few actors get to be the villain, the heroine and the comic relief. Aakanksha Awasthi has been all three — on Sahara One, Zee TV, Star Plus, Sony, 9X, Imagine TV and Colors, and then as a leading lady in cinema.

Chapter One

Playing the Villain

Her television career began on the dark side of the story. She played a negative role in Dolly Saja Ke on Sahara One, and then the main negative role in Ghar Ki Laxmi Betiyann on Zee TV.

Years later she returned to it with the main negative role of Ridhi Kashyap in Colors TV’s Ishq Mein Marjawan — proof that the edge she brought to her early work had only sharpened.

Chapter Two

The Heroine

Television also saw her as the heart of the story. She played the main positive role in Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat on Star Plus, and the parallel lead for the entire run of Waqt Batayega Kaun Apna Kaun Paraya on Sony.

She went on to lead Kismat Ka Khel on 9X, appeared in Beend Banoongaa Ghodi Chadhunga on Imagine TV, and played the second lead in the Hindi feature film Jaane Kya Hoga Rama Re.

“Uttaran is my milestone.”

— Aakanksha Awasthi

Chapter Three

Finding the Funny

Then came comedy. As Rohini in Colors TV’s Uttaran, she played a comic role for six years — the show she calls the milestone of her career.

The role won her the Lions Favourite Actor in a Comic Role honour at the 16th Lions Gold Awards.

Her comic timing also took her to Comedy Classes, where she appeared as a celebrity guest alongside Bharti Singh and Krishna Abhishek.

Chapter Four

Leading Lady on the Big Screen

After television, she stepped into film as a leading lady. She played the lead in the super-hit Dabang Sarkar opposite Khesari Lal Yadav, the lead in Vivaah opposite Pradeep Pandey “Chintu”, and the lead in Jai Hind opposite Pawan Singh.
